Pensions and Investments Review for British Expats

Questions and Answers

Question

Why should I review my pension and investments?

Answer

When did you last check how well - or otherwise – your pension and other investments are performing? Our experience indicates that many people simply invest in a 'balanced managed' fund and hope for steady growth. We recently carried out some research on the performance of these funds.

We looked up the performance figures on Morningstar (www.morningstar.com) which is an independent source for fund performance.  At the time we looked (18/1/2011), one of the best pension fund grew by 64.65% over the previous 12 months.  One of the worst lost 27% over the same period.

However, the fund that was the very best was the worst performing fund only two years previously and the fund that was the worst was now nearly the best two years previously. Even if you were in the right fund two years ago it does not mean that it is still the right fund for you now.

The answer is not simply to invest in the best fund now, and then transfer when the performance slips. That way you could end up in an even worse position – buy when the price is high and selling when it is low.

What is needed is a portfolio of funds appropriate to your attitude to risk and return and that remains appropriate through changes and re-balancing as external and personal circumstances change. That is why it's important to have a professional look at your pension and other investments now and advise you whether any changes are required and why.

We are specialists in this field and can help you set up and maintain exactly the right portfolio of funds tailored to your own circumstances. Not by asking you to throw good money after bad but by looking at what you already have in your pension and investments to make sure that they are appropriate and meet your needs. We keep your investments pro-actively under review so they continue to work properly for you year after year.

Question

How do we do this?

Answer

To enable us to review your pension and other investments, we simply need you to complete the Letter of Authority for each policy, sign it and return to us in the UK. This will give us the authority to find out which funds you are currently invested in from your provider.

Question

How long will it take?

Answer

If we have received the correct information, it will generally take between 20 to 30 days, but you will receive regular updates from us to let you know how we are getting on.

Question

What happens after this?

Answer

A qualified consultant will contact you and talk you through the information we have received and the options that are available to you.

Question

How much will this cost?

Answer

Face to Face Finance Ltd makes no charge for this service.

Question

Why do Face to Face Finance Ltd make no charge?

Answer

We look for long term relationships with our clients and in our experience many expats return to the UK from time to time and sometimes for good and we can continue being their advisers.
